A professional touring band working their magic around the globe for ten years, MAD DOG MCREA’s high energy and raw Celtic folk rock never fails to capture the complete attention of the audience, often sending them into a wild dancing frenzy.
This South-West band combine fiddle, 5-string banjo, bazouki, flutes, guitar, drums and bass along with powerful vocals to create an eclectic sound that mesmerises audiences from beginning to end.
The band has toured extensively in Ireland, USA, Scandinavia, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Switzerland and Thailand.
Regular festival favourites, MAD DOG MCREA went down a storm at Glastonbury, Beautiful Days, Big Green Gathering, Castle Rock and a truly memorable barnstorming headline slot at the Plymouth Festival in 2004.
This year, they headlined a concert at the Plymouth Pavilions in aid of the Tsunami Appeal in front of a 2000 strong crowd, as well as playing a headline set at the Maker festival to 3000 revellers, with Mercury Prize-nominated Seth Lakeman joining them onstage to play violin.
The new album, ‘Sophisticated Hat Manoeuvres’ contains nine original tracks and two traditional tunes that have had critics praising the depth of the album.
‘Am I Drinking Enough’ and ‘Country Boy’ are already instant hits with existing MAD DOG fans; others, for example the stunningly beautiful ‘Butterfly’ will doubtless attract a whole new posse of admirers, drawn to the band’s more sensitive side.
Their unique blend of kaleidoscopic orchestration has to be seen and heard to really appreciate their energy.
