Joe Caudwell, (aka Cephalodidge) is a unique performer because he plays many instruments at once.
His music blends together folk, tribal and ambient soundscapes in a haunting and dynamic style. Recently fiddle player Becky Haydock has joined Joe at live performances. We are pleased that Joe has agreed to come back this year. We implore you to see him perform and talk to him; you will find him a real gentleman who loves his music and its effect on people.
Joe says “I started playing the didgeridoo in 1994 and wanted to have different keys of didgeridoo to play. As a result, I started making splitwood didges and I’ve been making and selling them for the last seventeen years. Making a didgeridoo is a truly magical experience for me. I carefully select trees that have been damaged by storms, so that I avoid cutting down any living trees. Creating an instrument from a branch and giving it a unique voice is a real joy. I generally use chestnut, ash, birch and yew and have been lucky over recent years to receive help in finding special pieces of timber from a close friend who is a tree surgeon.
As well as playing the didgeridoo and making them, I am a fully trained teacher who has been graded as 'Outstanding' by HMI, Ofsted, the Carnival Learning Centre and my local LEA. I provide performances and tuition to all ages and abilities. I offer didgeridoo and djembe tuition on a one to one basis or for groups.”August 2011 saw the release of the debut album 'The Path'. The new album is a work of love and creativity, the culmination of 17 years of playing the didgeridoo. Produced and engineered by close friend Eltjo de Vries, ‘The Path’ follows a musical journey and story.
