Mary, Mikk and Colin
Side Orders are a recently formed (and named) band of experienced musicians who have been playing and singing individually around the East Midlands for many years and have been playing together regularly since their impromptu performance at the FolkStation Festival last year.
As with all these things, they first met at a local music club 'The Commercial' in Beeston, Nottingham and have now known each other for more years than they all care to remember.
Mary Reynolds is an extremely accomplished vocalist who sings a variety of styles and was a member of the much missed local band 'Thieves Highway'.
Mikk Skinner enjoys nothing better than sitting in on sessions whenever he can. When he first attended the above mentioned music club in Nottingham, he was a shy, unassuming performer, now with the help of some wonderful musicians around him he might just have overcome his shyness. Mikk plays guitar, whistles mandolin, percussion and vocals.
Colin Melia has been a bassist for bands of many styles in Nottinghamshire and in his native Yorkshire and is the secret rocker of the band. He is the tastiest bass player in the Midlands and also plays amongst other things bouzouki, guitar, kazoo and also backing vocals. He can sometimes be seen without his hat!!
Mary, Mikk and Colin all pursue other musical ventures, but are not adverse to a little bit on the side.
Side Orders (previous name 'Havenstreet' - changed for obvious reasons) music is wide-ranging, but has a very strong English, Celtic and transatlantic influence. |
