The organisers of FolkStation have been keen since the outset to support a number of charities with Island links. However, since the Festival is not profit making, giving direct donations has not been possible, so we decided to give support in a number of other ways. We provide space in our craft marquee and within the festival field for a number of charities to set up stalls to publicise themselves or to sell merchandise etc. We also give over the main stage on the Sunday evening of the Festival to a concert dedicated to a charity. This year we are supporting the following three charities:

Earl Mountbatten Hospice

The Hospice is the Island's centre of excellence in caring for people with life-shortening illnesses - and their families and carers.

It cares for over 800 patients each year. The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is the only hospice on the Isle of Wight and receives a grant from the local Primary Care Trust, which covers about a third of the running costs. For the remaining £2.2 million, the Hospice is dependent on the public's generosity.

The Hospice will be bringing their exhibition and stand to the Festival and hopefully will be selling their distinctive Sunflowers.

Isle of Wight Asthma Swim Group & Isle of Wight Branch of Asthma UK

Originally formed in 1981, the IW group provides a range of support to people of all ages affected by asthma, including:
  • Awareness and education for patients, carers and health professionals
  • A regular swim group
  • Social and medical meetings
  • Help for activity and outward bound courses
  • Lobbying for a safer enviornment for asthma sufferers

The Asthma Group will be bringing their exhibition and stand to the Festival.

Hants and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance started flying on 1st July 2007. Since then it has performed over 2000 operational missions. The Helicopter is based at Thruxton Airfield near Andover and its Head Office is in Southampton. Every day the Air Ambulance crew provide an efficient, rapid response to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses, and many other incidents throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Helicopter is called out on average 3 - 5 times per day, and many of these missions are life saving.

The Air Ambulance will be the beneficiary of the proceeds of our Sunday evening concert, headlined by Smoke & Mirrors.
